(Mr. Lindsey’s family unveils the marble plaque they donated to the facility: daughter Tiffany Lindsey (left), daughter and current Beyer Aquatics Coach Whitney Lindsey (center), and wife Cindy Lindsey)
Last Friday, I attended the dedication of the Kirk Lindsey Aquatic Center at Beyer High School. Mr. Lindsey served as the head of the Beyer aquatics program for 20 years. Some have said Mr. Lindsey was Beyer aquatics. Not only did he pour his heart and soul into students at practice and meets, Mr. Lindsey volunteered with the Athletic Boosters organization, in a variety of posts, for over 20 years. He was named “Outstanding Beyer Volunteer” in 2005. His impact on the Beyer aquatics program continues to this day. Thank you to the Lindsey family for sharing in this wonderful event. 4/17/2012

This past Wednesday, MCS, under the direction of Jorge Perez and Madie Herrera, sponsored the first annual Up 2 You Youth Conference. High school girls were brought together to attend break out sessions regarding self esteem, making good choices and following your dreams. Here is Key Note Speaker Jenny Solis, AP at Gregori, sharing her story of overcoming obstacles in life to reach her goals. She was very inspirational. The students ended their morning eating pizza and listening to some GREAT music! | 2/13/2012

Thank you to La Loma teacher Beth Kanaly and the students in her 5th period Leadership class for a great afternoon! The class has been interviewing community leaders to find out what characteristics are needed to be a leader. Last Wednesday was my turn in the hot seat. Students asked me everything from what I wanted my first job to be, to what a typical day is like for me now. I enjoyed every minute of my time in the classroom. The students were engaged, respectful and insightful. We will definitely be seeing those students in leadership roles in the years ahead. 2/3/2012
James Marshall Elementary School implemented PeaceBuilders this year. All classified and certificated staff have been trained, and Peace Walls are up throughout the school. The PeaceBuilder pledge is chorally stated with the principal every morning and students are rewarded when they can recite the pledge from memory. Staff and students are all encouraged to hand out praise notes every day, and the principal challenges them with a one minute peace recipe each morning. |
|
Students are responding positively by looking for examples, citing the pledge, and talking about how people act nicer on campus. The staff has responded positively by also recognizing ALL students on campus, not just their own. They also praise one another in and out of class, and Praise Notes are on display in the staff room.
Marshall’s climate has seen a positive impact and everyone is looking forward to implementing more pieces of the program throughout the year.

At every Board meeting, one of our elementary sites provides two students to lead the Pledge of Allegiance. Last night, John Muir Elementary students Menard and Preston did an excellent job leading the packed meeting.
Menard (left) is the current Student Body President. Following college, he would like to be a teacher.
Preston is the former Student Body President. When he grows up he would like to be an athlete or join the military. |

This is the tree that greets parents, students and staff at the Davis High School Counseling Office. It is a GRADUATION tree, complete with cap (tree topper), graduation certificates rolled up, diploma covers, and C2G (Commitment to Graduate) ornaments. The tree even features a golden "key" graduation ornament symbolizing the key to graduation. Thank you to Gloria Rosales and Carol Huggins for decorating the tree. This is a great new tradition at Davis. | 12/6/2011

Last Tuesday, the entire freshman class at Davis High School made a Commitment to Graduate. The class of 2015 walked the stage with all the pomp and circumstance of a traditional graduation ceremony. As their name was read, their post-secondary goal was read too: college, career or military. Later in the day, the campus hosted a College, Career and Military Faire featuring representatives from a variety of colleges and universities, all four branches of the military, and a sampling of career opportunities.
