Complaining Less

Strive to Be Complainless

As a school leader it is imperative that I practice Smile and Move philosophy. Students, teachers, staff and parents look to me to maintain a postive school culture and learning environment. Smile and Move guides me in dealing with complaints. A Complaint (or  whine) that is negative and doesn't  contribute to improving student learning or a positive work environment is a waste of time. I never take a complaint personal. I Smile with intent to make a positive difference and Move to assist others.

Positivity!

Smile and Move means always keeping my head up, looking ahead to all the great things that are coming and continuously working to get there!

SMOVE!

Smile & Move means to stay positive, listen, and promote communication and collaboration.  In other words - build relationships in a positive environment.

Kids First

Smile and move means to think "kids first" by being a positive feature of support and encouragement for all of our students. Attitude is everything and a good attitude is good for student learning, keeping a smile on, no matter what, just makes it easier.

"How can we help each other create and contribute more value each day?"

I have decided to give meaningful, genuine compliments related to job performance.  Everyone wants to hear something positive about their efforts.  Let "adding the value" start with you!

Interdependency

One thing about celebrating the diverse nature of our schools and community is considering the importance of interdependency.  Smile and Move philosophy speaks to "depending on each other and being accessible and approachable.  We can't succeed on any signficant level without connecting with people."  I know I cannot be successful without empowering and trusting those around me (thanks, Ray McNulty!)- my faculty, my administrative team, and even my students.  Learning to release control may be on a steep curve but I have noticed lately that it really works!  People are rising to the challenge of new positions, new students, new ideas, and new colleagues.  It's thrilling to watch so much personal growth lead to smiling, satisfied faces.  The trick is to have everyone understand that interdependency works both ways and that it is ok to ask for help even if it makes you uncomfortable at first.  As I ask for help, it is humbling, yet empowering to me too and I am grateful to those who are there for me when I need them.  I hope to return the favour!
