Modesto City Schools has set the benchmark in standards-based library instruction for districts across the state.
Modesto City Schools (MCS) K-12 Library Media Program is a collaborative effort that is fully integrated into the school's curriculum and is central to the learning process. This ensures that the entire educational community effectively uses ideas and information, enabling students to be full, productive, and independent members of an educated society. Modesto City Schools employs credentialed Teacher Librarians at elementary, junior high and high school sites. Additionally, Library Assistants are at the elementary and high school level. In 1998, MCS Teacher Librarians developed Information Literacy Standards that were aligned with California English Language Arts Content Standards. In 2004, MCS Information Literacy Standards were used as a blueprint for the California School Library Association Recommended Information Literacy Skills K-12.
