Modesto City Schools has set the benchmark in standards-based library instruction for districts across the state.

I love to readModesto City Schools (MCS) K-12 Library Media Program is a collaborative effort that is fully integrated into the school's curriculum and is central to the learning process.  This ensures that the entire educational community effectively uses ideas and information, enabling students to be full, productive, and independent members of an educated society.  Modesto City Schools employs credentialed Teacher Librarians at elementary, junior high and high school sites.  Additionally, Library Assistants are at the elementary and high school level.  In 1998, MCS Teacher Librarians developed Information Literacy Standards that were aligned with California English Language Arts Content Standards.  In 2004, MCS Information Literacy Standards were used as a blueprint for the California School Library Association Recommended Information Literacy Skills K-12.

Children at After School Program

Every school day the After School Learning Program provides academic help and guidance, enrichment, and recreation to students in a safe and supportive environment. The program is in session until 6 p.m. at sixteen elementary schools (for students in grades 1 to 6) and at two junior highs (for students in grades 7 and 8). Students get academic help with completing their homework as well as additional instruction to improve their abilities in reading, math, and writing. Students involved in the after school program have been shown to be doing better in school.

PathwayResearch shows us that a positive preschool experience can effect not only a child’s school readiness, but can have a lasting, lifelong impact on their development.

That is why, at Modesto City Schools (MCS) we have contracted with Federal and State funding sources to provide over 1,400 students with a Head Start or Preschool program and the time to begin applying for these programs is now.

Please visit the MCS Child Development Programs website for additional information on all our programs—Head Start, State Preschool and Latchkey.
