Associate Superintendent, ALC C Modesto City Schools
Modesto City Schools provides a
rigorous and relevant K-12 instructional program that provides the potential for
all students to achieve. Our goal
is clear: A diploma in every hand; a
rewarding career in every future; . . . a contributing member of our global
society.
Twenty-three elementary schools
(grades K-6) provide self-contained classrooms with a classroom ratio of 20 to 1
in grades 1 through 3 and 34 students in grades 4 through 6.
Standards-based instruction (standards, assessments, curriculum, instruction,
instructional materials and intervention) is aligned with the core subject areas
of
Reading, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies.
Modesto City Schools offers programs such as Gifted and Talented Education,
After-School Programs, single gender classes, and an Open Plan instructional
setting. Staffs are knowledgeable
about and can interact successfully with
Modesto’s diverse cultures regarding children’s
educational experiences. We care
about students and their families and are interested in creating a sense of
belonging and community among students, parents, and staff.
Students at Modesto City Schools’ junior high schools are
exposed to a rigorous curriculum derived from the California State Content
Standards. Courses include: Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies,
Physical Education, and an electives program that includes a number of different
options such as Exploring Technology, Computer Technology, Wood Shop, Spanish,
AVID, Journalism Yearbook, Band, Orchestra, and Chorus. The Gifted
and Talented curriculum is offered in Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social
Studies. Students that need specific instruction to support individual
needs may qualify for programs that include English Learners for all levels,
special education, and support/intervention classes in Language Arts and Math.
After school tutoring is available in all core content areas on a regular basis.
Extra-curricular activities include many different sports for both boys and
girls. In addition, there are an active WEB (Where Everybody Belongs) programs
and Academic Achievement Recognition programs at all junior high schools.
Modesto City Schools high schools provide a variety of
standards-based academic courses and programs that meet the needs and interests
of our high school students, including:
the International Baccalaureate program; Advancement Via Individual
Determination (AVID), which provides academic support, tutoring, college
awareness activities, and teambuilding to make college entrance a possibility
for all students, including those typically underrepresented; Advanced
Placement; Fine Arts academy - Modesto High Entertainment Technology Training
(MHETT); Orchestra; Choir; FFA; Yearbook and Newspaper programs; the Renaissance
program; Forensic and Biotechnical Academy; Graphic Design; Pre-Veterinary
Science Pathway. In addition, our
academic competitive teams (such as Science Olympiad, Speech, Academic
Decathlon), band and sports programs have received regional, state and/or
national acclaim. There are also
specially designed education programs available to meet the needs of our diverse
student population, such as the
Advance Path
Academy for students needing credit recovery, and a
school with Smaller Learning Communities designed to increase personalization of
working/learning relationships between teachers and students.
There is a place in Modesto City High Schools to challenge and enrich all of our
students.
