Community Advisory Committees are required under Education Code ..........Each Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA) is required to have a CAC to provide input to both the SELPA and Governing Board regarding our Local Plan and issues that involve students with disabilities. Additionally, Community Advisory Committees provide many other functions:

Deaf and Hard of Hearing Program (DHH)

Modesto City Schools offers DHH students access to mainstream programs, DHH Special Day Classes, as well as individual programs for students with a variety of special needs.

The goal of the DHH Department is to provide an environment for students with various abilities where they can meet their potential and have the opportunity to complete the graduation requirements from Modesto City Schools with a certificate of completion or diploma.

The DHH Program is a comprehensive program with services starting with Early Start children ages 0-3, Itinerant Services (working with DHH at home or in their home schools), K-6 at Lakewood Elementary, 7-8 at La Loma Jr. High, and 9-12 at Thomas Downey High School. We service a range of students from those who are fully mainstreamed and eligible for college prep classes to those who require core classes within special day classes for the deaf.
